yes, ie, my brain's still half-asleep at 11 in the morning.
curious, this whole business of establishing your best work hours. in the middle of the book translation, my dependence on a routine and an accessible english-filipino dictionary forced me to work when the sun is up.
when that job was over, the daytime hours continued, punctuated by morning breathing exercises attempted to be made a habit. (they are made un-habit when i'm out of town or in someone else's house.)
soon enough, waking hours stretched on and on beyond that hour when i start to look for sungsong peanuts and say to myself, well, it's technically a new day. you are not snacking. this is the real breaking-the-fast. breakfast is really the morning snack pretending to be a legitimate meal.
nap time, once made regular after i'm done with tuesday-thursday afternoon classes, were pushed later to early evenings. hooray, said the quiet hours. more waking time with us, they rub their hands with anticipation.
when you're a student of the english dept in up, an unspoken rule is never to schedule with the prof a morning appointment. try to be penciled in for a brunch date and you'll be met with a grumpy prof or adviser who might end up giving you a lower grade (if you're passing a paper for completion) or more revisions (if you're at the receiving end of thesis writing).
oh well, ie, it is these little things that'll be part of your world soon enough.
p.s. wong kar-wai's newest is 'my blueberry nights.' a title as dreamy as its
