this internet cafe sucks.

this is not exactly the summing-up-my-day sentence that i was aiming for. for starters, it's a wonder i ever got to this window. connection speed is slower than...oh wait.

apparently, it's picking up and so i'm listening to a radiohead song on launch radio. i wonder how that thom yorke cd sounds.

last saturday was the all-star durga party in pansol. well, okay, we were stars in our universe and the real stars were the very lb banquet (pancit malabon from la ville, fried chicken from ellen's, puto biñan from los baños, etc.) and the well-stocked beer station, not to mention a wayward bottle of jose cuervo and my most favorite buddy in the world, pareng jim beam.

it was for the most part creepy, in the sense that here are the people you saw in high school and college, with extra poundage and kids in tow. but put them all together in one roof and they go right back to the carefree attitude of the old days.

it was made even more creepy when durga's husband's old high school band played together for the first time since college (and this was in the mid-90s). result: alice in chains, metallica, the black crowes, to name a few. i just had to sing along, head bobbing.

even creepier (but in a sheepish smile type of creepy) was actually having an actual exchange of words with the ex, the first time since i graduated from high school. like me, he sported glasses and his face filled up a bit but he's still the same. earlier in the evening, we found ourselves at the buffet table and durga had to say 'magkakilala naman kayo diba?' he quickly answered 'e hindi naman niya ako pinapansin.'

and so it is, yes.

and so there goes my weekend, strange and wonderful and holding the promise of stranger things to unfold.

the burden that is always carried by frontmen of enigmatic bands who go solo: trying to do their own thing while still making it recognizable for the fan base.

glad to have listened to m.i.a. and hot chip via joffin - matagal-tagal na rin akong hindi nage-explore sa nether regions ng music scene
