Morning CD
The first DIY tape/CD I got was from my ex (whose name shall not be uttered). It was the entire soundtrack of Singles. And since this was the year 1992, the recording was done on tape. Jurassic for the kids of today, but for googoo eyed me all 15 and impressionable, it was the best thing since the A-Team.
Eventually, he gave the me an actual tape of the Singles soundtrack for my birthday. Along with a really big birthday card and....wait, did I get roses that day? Who cares? The tape did it for me.
Since then, the Singles tape became my morning CD. Favorite cuts: State of Love and Trust by Pearl Jam, Dyslexic Heart by Paul Westerberg and that Smashing Pumpkins song the title of which escapes me right now.
During my latter college years, Tori Amos' Boys for Pele did it for me. Well, to be quite exact, it was more the trippings of my roommate Grace, who was converted to Tori Amos because of my Under the Pink tape. (Yes, despite it being the mid-90s, I still had no CDs. Prices were just too prohibitive for my student allowance.)
My former dormmate Jacqui was kind enough to make a compilation for me, this out of the lengthy songlist she had with her. This was back in 2000 (or was it 2001?). When I listened to it last weekend, my head bobbed to only three songs.
With my 8 am MWF classes, the need for a wake-upper CD is becoming more urgent. Have come up with the following songs so far: Sabotage by Beastie Boys, Give It Away by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden and Minerva by Deftones.
Hmmm. I need to have Les' sense of track ordering to make it all work.
