Breathing Lessons Am into my first week of inhaling Symbicort, a drug that was agreed upon by my sister and me. This is to bypass the need to take two separate drugs - one to relieve acute asthma attacks, the other as long-term therapy. This also meant a hole in my wallet - Php 750. Not to mention numerous side effects - tremors, palpitations, candidiasis (all three of which I'm experiencing at various times during the day), among others. (The last major attack I had took place during my second or third month of teaching. I remember that time very well. It was a very stressful time - adjusting to the routine of teaching, dealing with the (non) transition from long-time thesis bum to talking professor to more than 150 students. It wasn't funny at all.) This Wednesday, I'll be resuming doing hatha yoga with my current brisk walking partner. I made the suggestion to her this afternoon, given the reality that the rains might grace its presence in UPLB for another week or two. Okay, okay, the sinking reality is that our butts are so lazy our office chairs have had it. I loved doing hatha yoga back at the dorm and during my thesis writing because it reduced the need for me to go out of the house. I warned her not to be misled by the seemingly harmless yoga positions in my book - they make you sweat faster than brisk walking. I had a good long talk with a friend who hasn't been in circulation for some time. She shared crucial information that led me to take stock of things I've mistakenly thought of for some time. I've made equally crucial decisions and am starting to make good these decisions. The eenie-weenie voices are now put to pasture. |
