Dear Mykel,

I think I opened too many windows - my eyes feel really dry. Been reading durga's blog, my e-mail (and deleting spam), an article in The Guardian on Jorge Luis Borges' early flame, and viewing Aileen's Normandy pictures.

Needles and I just came off watching a theater class production of Sophocles' Antigone. As one who is drawn more to Jean Anouilh's adaptation of the Greek tragedy, I have high expectations of the portrayals of Creon and Antigone. Unfortunately, Ricky Abad's Creon and (I believe) Miren Alvarez's Antigone in an Anton Juan production many years ago serve as a rather unfair point of comparison. I was looking for the gravity, awareness of their tragic inevitability and their will to execute their respective roles in this tableaux. I did not.

Alright, I may be a little harsh. These are college students, not exactly trained in acting and the rudiments of theater so I'll cut them some slack. So much for emotional overinvestment.

I did make a standing ovation for one character - Teiresias, played by a former student.

Earlier this afternoon....

I was salivating, sweating (and to think I was in the supermarket) and shaking. I rediscovered a long-lost love - Granny Goose Tortilla Chips (Cheese) with sour cream.

I looked like a sad dog with a recovered bone buried for safekeeping years ago but forgot where the location was.

Earliest memory of chips with sour cream - second year high school, Friday afternoon, munching while watching afternoon tv. Sour cream cost Php 17 - in 1990. This afternoon, my precious sour cream cost me Php 50.

A not-so-recent memory with chips and sour cream: one early evening in the dead of summer. I was staying at Ipil dorm in UP Diliman with durga. The aim - monopoly of channel selection in the tv room. Weapons of choice - Granny Goose Tortilla Chips (Cheese), sour cream and 237 ml Cokes. Location - captured lounge chairs. Goodness.

Okay, needles left me a few minutes. Said he needed to attend to something.

Returned to reading Deleuze and Guattari's Anti Oedipus. It will, once again, take me a day or two of intensive reading to get me into the groove of its textual rhythm.

When was the last time you and needles saw each other?

Ciao bella.

A.
