The short cut to the True Colors concert leg at Radio City Music Hall a few hours ago

Okay, to be clear, this was a concert tour spearheaded by Cyndi Lauper (ergo, the title) to create awareness about LGBT rights and issues, but moreso to get everyone to vote for candidates who are espousing these matters. So it wasn't a surprise na mas diverse pa sa halo halo ang laman ng Radio City kanina.

A quick observation (which echoed my sister's observation as well), and I might get flak for this but it was all too clear - the gays were super fab while the lesbians (at least those who were with us at the 2nd mezzanine) were, well, on the hefty side and quite frumpy.

Having disposed of that little detail, here is the short cut to the concert performers:

The Cliks - lesbian band from Canada; the lead singer was hot, great voice
Indigo Girls - sa wakas, I sang to "Galileo" na hindi banda sa UP fair ang sinasabayan ko
Rosie O'Donnell - so, so funny. Even played the drums with Cyndi Lauper at the end.
Regina Spektor - appeared onstage in a very sparkly dress. In other words, isa siyang disco ball na nagpipiano. Now that I got to hear her other songs, I have greater respect for her. What musical instrument does she not play? Man, playing the piano with the left hand, the drums with the right? Baka naman pati triangle papatulan niya?
Margaret Cho - mahalay ang luka luka. She rocks, nevertheless.
Kate Clinton - don't know her, sorry. But she was funny, white funny.
Carson Kressley - the host. He could have a career in stand-up. Had costume changes, the best one being the pants with the glittered vertical panel at the sides.
The B-52s - tangina, matinding high school flashback. Muntik na akong mabalian ng buto kakasayaw.

at.....
Cyndi Lauper! She was rocking it. Sa kanya ako lalo nagka flashback...back to the 80s!!! The best part was, I could still remember the lyrics to "Money Changes Everything," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," at ang nightmare ng grade school dances, "She Bop." Of course, there were lighter-moments with "Time after Time" and "True Colors," to which everyone who performed were all onstage and feeling the moment as balloons of various sizes and colors were released to the crowd.

The $60 was so so worth the almost-five hours of utter music nostalgia and great discovery.

Tomorrow morning, I hit the open rehearsal of the NY Philharmonic. In the afternoon (kung kaya pa ng powers ko), I'll drag my ass to Union Square to a Salman Rushdie reading at the nearby Barnes and Noble store.

xoxo nyc!
