And by bad, we mean baad.(Right, Jane?)
I just came from the Rilo Kiley concert. This is the first time I watched a concert of a musician I am not totally familiar with. But I am really curious about Rilo Kiley and so I asked my sister to get tickets for the show.
While I was with Jane yesterday driving around her better part of Jersey, I asked her to play her Rilo Kiley in her iPod to review. (This is how my sister used to 'prepare' for concerts of bands I knew more than she did, hehe.)
As usual, I have pictures but I can't load them yet (like all the other pictures of the concerts, museums, friends and other random scenes and events I've taken). For now I'll say that Jenny Lewis is a redhead and she sings, dances and struts onstage like a rock star. The great thing about Rilo Kiley is that the songs are totally enjoyable, even if you heard them for the first time (or, in my case, two to three times).
There were two front acts before Rilo. The first, which Jane and I caught midway, was a decent band. Decent, not in a college rock sort of way, but decent like 'they're peachy' sort of decent. The second had a female lead singer who reminded us of Rachel Yamagata but man, we just couldn't understand what she was singing. Her voice sounded like she had mouthwash on while singing. (An acorns-inside-her-mouth analogy wouldn't work.)
And then there was the demographic. Since The Swell Season concert, I've been sensitive to audience demographics. Now that had an old demographic, and by 'old' I mean ooooold. I mean people who just came from their (my sister interrupts and asks why my post seems so long. Really, I'm just yakking at this point.)
The shortcut: The Swell Season fans are old, Rilo Kiley fans are college kids and people in their late 20s and early 30s trying to cling on to their fleeting youth. (Yes, that includes me but I will not include Jane if only because I wasn't able to get her consent for me to include her in the second demographic.)
Ending: shet, malapit na akong umuwi.
I will get the thick envelope.
